Sailing
along the Spice Islands
Come sailing in a
traditional schooner through the tropical waters that surround the 13,000 odd islands that
comprise the Indonesian archipelago. Discover some of the diverse cultures and natural
habitats that thrive on these remote, far flung islands, largely untouched by modern
civilization. Swim and relax on tranquil deserted beaches, snorkel on spectacular coral
reefs teeming with colorful tropical fish and walk through lush tropical rainforests.
Explore villages where women weave traditional ikat cloth with its striking colors and
designs. There are ample opportunities to collect traditional handicrafts and original
artifacts unavailable elsewhere. |

7 Days: Bali -
Sumbawa - Komodo - Bali, $1,139
Start your sailing trip this morning from Benoa harbor in
Bali (very easily accessible from Sanur, Tuban, Kuta and the Nusa Dua resort areas) and
head east for a visit to a traditional Bali Aga village of Tenganan in East Bali. Enjoy a
shore excursion here to the water palace of Tirtgangga, and after dinner sail to the
western part of the island of Lombok where you arrive the next morning. Enjoy a tour of
the island before sailing to the island of Satona. Visit the famous crater lake on Satonda
the next day, before sailing to the Lesser Sunda Islands, further east. The next day is
undoubtedly a highlight of the cruise, when you land on the Komodo Island National Park.
Visit the famous residents of the islands the unique Komodo dragons - lizards that
grow up to about 10 feet and weigh more than 400 lbs. Enjoy a beach barbecue on a neighbor
island, before sailing for the town of Bima, in East Sumbawa. After another shore
excursion, including a tour of this bustling town by horse-drawn cart, sail during the
night to the island of Alas. Visit a local market as well as fishing village here, and
enjoy a performance of traditional dancing. During the night sail back to Bali
spend your last day on a deserted beach on a small island just off Lombok (Gili Nanggu),
before returning to Bali late in the afternoon.
